Franck Yannick Kessié, an Ivorian professional football player who competes for both the Ivory Coast national team and La Liga club Barcelona, was born on December 19, 1996.
After his contract with AC Milan expires, Franck Kessié will be joining FC Barcelona on a free transfer. The midfielder has committed to a contract that runs through 2026 and has a €500 million release clause.
Barcelona Is Closer To Welcoming Franck Kessie
The Ivory Coast midfielder has been one of Milan’s top performers in recent years and was a key component of the Rossoneri’s Serie A championship victory last season.
On Wednesday, the midfielder from the Ivory Coast will make his formal debut. He will follow Yaya Touré from the late 2000s as the second Ivorian to play for Barcelona.
Kessié expands Xavi Hernandez’s options in midfield and will contend alongside Nico Gonzalez, Sergio Busquets, Pedri, and Gavi for a spot on the team.
Kessié first came to Italy in 2015 with Atalanta, and after a loan with Cesena, he joined Milan on loan in 2017 before relocating permanently in 2019. He was instrumental in Milan’s first Serie A championship in 11 years this season, scoring six goals in 31 games, including the league-winning goal against Sassuolo last weekend.
Kessié had developed into one of Serie A’s top midfielders throughout his five years at San Siro. The 25-year-old helped the Rossoneri win the Scudetto, their first championship in eleven years, to cap off his time with the team.
Milan has made several attempts to persuade Kessie to remain with the team longer. However, the Ivorians desired to travel to Barcelona. There has been an agreement to that effect for some time.
Kessié joins Barca after helping AC Milan win the Serie A championship for the first time in 11 years last year.
Kessié was a target for Tottenham during the January transfer window, and the two sides had discussions regarding a free transfer in the summer.
After agreeing to sell 10% of their La Liga TV rights to the international investment group Sixth Street Partners, Barca was able to register Kessie.
The Blaugrana, which has been attempting to balance its budget after incurring record-breaking debts in 2021, will ultimately receive a total value of €267 million (£229 million/$277 million) from that purchase.
Andreas Christensen, another free agent, is expected to join Kessié at Camp Nou, and Barcelona has also made money available to pursue top targets like Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich and Raphinha of Leeds.
After the arrival of AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessié in the morning, the Danish center-back is the team’s second acquisition of the day.
Christensen has been with Chelsea for ten years, spending two of those years on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach. He will now begin the next phase of his career in Spain.
Given that Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti, and Oscar Mingueza are all expected to depart, the defender will face competition from Gerard Pique, Ronald Araujo, and Eric Garcia for a position.
Coach Xavi Hernandez is interested in Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, so there may be further defense signings as well.
