This summer, Hertha Berlin may lose seven players in order to trim the roster and raise more money for transfers.

According to reports, Krzysztof Pitek (27), Omar Alderete (25), Dodi Lukebakio (24), Deyovaisio Zeefuik (24), Javairo Dilrosun (24), Santiago Ascacibar (25), and Jordan Torunarigha are among the players Hertha is considering to let go of (24).

Pitek makes the most money off of this, taking home about €4.5 million annually. Piatek’s most recent loan to Fiorentina failed to impress the team enough to enact a €15 million option-to-buy clause. Krzysztof Piatek of Hertha Berlin claimed that he regularly communicates with Robert Lewandowski, a player from Poland who plays for Bayern Munich.

Since they played together on the Polish national team, the two have gotten to know each other pretty well and have become close friends. Since Piatek’s summer transfer from AC Milan to Hertha Berlin, the two strikers now compete against one another at least twice per season in the Bundesliga.

Lewandowski, who has already defeated Die Alte Dame twice this season—4-3 at the Allianz Arena and then 1-0 last week at a snow-covered Olympiastadion—will, unfortunately, have the bragging rights at the upcoming Poland camp.

Despite the rivalry in the domestic league, Piatek claimed to regularly communicate with his countryman. “We communicate by phone and letter frequently. We discuss the circumstances at our clubs, how we should move around the field, and what is expected of us during training camps.”

Lewandowski, who is seven years older than Piatek, has been playing for a lot longer and may serve as a mentor to Piatek, continuously encouraging him to get better at what he does.

Lewandowski’s exact opposite as a number 9 striker is Piatek, although few strikers can compare to Bayern’s prolific goal scorer. “I can’t judge myself against him.” Lewandowski is physically powerful, has a fantastic brain, and has the same superb right and left leg. He is currently the finest striker in the world and one of the best in Bundesliga history, according to him.

He scored his 25th goal of the season, putting him on pace to surpass Gerd Müller’s record of 40 goals in a single season. The Polish international is however still open to moving to Italy.

Alderete, Lukebakio, and Torunarigha are set to depart in the near future. Alderete, who played in Spain last season, is being pursued by a number of La Liga teams, including Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, and Villareal.

Royal Antwerp and Club Brugge in Belgium are interested in signing Lukebakio, while Torunarigha has been contacted by West Ham United and declined to extend his contract with Hertha. This year, every player who has joined Hertha has done so on a free transfer.

Sporting director Fredi Bobic would have to let go of a few of their massive 35-man roster before he could begin investing. While Piatek said he wouldn’t dare compare himself to his illustrious compatriot, he believes his finest form is yet to come and that he can find it with Hertha.

“I’ve never expressed a desire to leave Berlin. I give it my all while I’m in Herta. I became increasingly aware of finding my groove. Because of this, I think we’ll get to see Krzysztof Piatek for who he really is in short,” he shared.

He has made twenty-one appearances in the Bundesliga this season and has so far scored five goals and provided two assists, a total he will undoubtedly try to increase.

Piatek and Lewandowski will get another chance to meet when they report for international duty in just over a month. On March 25, 28, and 31, respectively, Poland’s World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign is set to get underway with games against England, Andorra, and Hungary.
