FC Köln has confirmed that Steffen Baumgart has extended his contract there. The contract for the 50-year-old has been extended to 2024 from its initial expiration date of 2023.
Steffen Baumgart Said “My Desired Consistency”
The Billy Goats have enjoyed somewhat of a revival under Baumgart since joining the team in 2021. Steffen Baumgart, the coach of FC Köln, has committed to the Bundesliga squad through the year 2024 by signing a new contract.
After coming from Paderborn to Köln last summer, Baumgart led Köln to a seventh-place Bundesliga finish in his first season as manager.
After finishing seventh with 52 points the previous season, Köln was assured of playing in Europe.
The team was on the verge of being relegated just a year earlier but won the play-off to avoid it by defeating Holstein Kiel.
With the signing of a new contract, FC Köln coach Steffen Baumgart has committed himself to the Bundesliga team through the year 2024. In his first season as manager, Baumgart guided Köln to a seventh-place Bundesliga finish after moving from Paderborn to Köln last summer.
Last year, Baumgart guided FC to seventh place and into the Conference League. The 50-year-old stated on Monday that “this project is not over yet, we have goals and we want to reach them.
We also want to get out of the difficult circumstances that we are going through as a club together. We didn’t have a long conversation and decided quite quickly.
Christian Keller, the managing director, lauded Baumgart’s coaching skills and his “knowledge of the framework conditions and the course pursued by FC.” While we are all looking for a longer relationship, he emphasizes that this “also includes the fact that we quite consciously agreed to initially extend the contract by one year until 2024.
According to Keller, the Bundesliga’s “good example that has served as a role model for many years” served as the inspiration for the one-year extension. We shall now decide whether and how to approach the future together by sitting down together in the rhythm of the Freiburg model.
Köln has now recognized Baumgart’s contributions and desired consistency in the coaching role. Baumgart, on the other hand, has undoubtedly aroused the interests of rival clubs but has refrained from letting them influence him in any way. He now wants to advance the team despite the precarious financial situation.
The head coach is reported in the club’s release as stating, “The talks with FC moved rapidly. “To all of us, it became immediately evident how we wanted to approach this and how we wanted to collaborate going forward.
I will stay on my route and continue to make plans from season to season even though I have a contract that lasts through 2024 and can definitely see myself staying with FC after that.”
Steffen Baumgart and FC Köln have demonstrated that they mean what they say. Following the lead of a league opponent, the deal, which was set to expire in the summer of 2023, has been extended by an additional year.
