Nico Schulz has the option to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, and Italy might be one of his options. This would put an end to a dismal two-season run for the left-sided player, who has only started 23 of the 37 games he has played. Lazio is on the lookout for a budget left-back, and Schulz is one of the names on their list. Lazio’s primary aim is Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri, although they are unlikely to be able to pay him. As a result, Lazio is allegedly considering Nico Schulz of Borussia Dortmund and Javi Galan of Celta Vigo as possible replacements.
Schulz is set to be sold this summer for a bargain transfer fee by the Black and Yellows. Since joining Borussia Dortmund from TSG Hoffenheim in 2019, the 29-year-old has struggled to make an impression. Despite the fact that he has two years left on his contract, the BVB is willing to let him go this summer.

Borussia Dortmund completed three additions early in the transfer window in the summer of 2019, adding to their strong 2018-19 campaign, which saw them lead the Bundesliga championship battle until the last day. Nicho Schulz played as a left wingback for Dortmund after joining from Hoffenheim, under the tutelage of future Leipzig and Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann. Schulz thrived under Nagelsmann’s style, sprinting down the left side and delivering cut-back passes into the box for the attackers.
Schulz’s independence from defensive responsibilities as a wingback allowed him to use his speed and energy to cause havoc on opposition defenders by sprinting into open channels. Schulz was a key figure in Hoffenheim’s first-ever Champions League campaign, starting five of the team’s group stage games. Schulz started 61 of his 71 matches for Hoffenheim over two seasons, scoring four goals and giving nine assists on his way to becoming a fixture in Die Mannschaft’s national team setup.
Schulz was changed to a typical fullback by then-Head Coach Lucien Favre upon his arrival at Dortmund, and despite being the first choice from the start, Schulz never appeared comfortable. To make matters worse for Schulz, Raphael Guerreiro has been a revelation at left-back in recent seasons, and Schulz has never really been given a chance in the squad since his arrival. Guerreiro was just unplayable, and the German was relegated to spot duty and stoppage time minutes even when Favre moved Dortmund to a 3-4-2-1 shape, which would have benefitted Schulz.
About Nico Schulz’s Career
Schulz began his career at BSC Rehberge Berlin before joining Hertha BSC at the age of seven. He pleased Liverpool scouts as a young youngster, who offered him a contract, which he subsequently refused.
On 14 August 2010, he made his first competitive appearance for the first team in a 2–0 win against SC Pfullendorf in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, coming on as a replacement for Valeri Domovchiyski in the 81st minute.
Schulz was a regular replacement and sometimes starter for the next two seasons. He scored his first goal for Hertha BSC against VfL Bochum on March 30, 2013.
On August 18, 2015, Schulz signed a four-year contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach. In 2017, he signed a three-year contract with 1899 Hoffenheim.
Further, Borussia Dortmund has added two assistant coaches, Peter Hermann and Sebastian Geppert, to their coaching staff, just weeks after hiring Edin Terzic as their new head coach.
