In what seems to be the end for current Stefan Ortega, a Bundesliga goalkeeper is apparently close to joining Manchester City, according to 2nd Zack Steffen. The Etihad executives are always open to exploring new market opportunities, despite the Premier League winners’ narrow focus on finding a new left-back and central midfielder.

That certainly seems to be the case in a recent development, as the Premier League winners are reportedly getting closer to acquiring a new backup goalkeeper.

Stefan Ortega, Chopping Blocker To Happen For Manchester City

The latest information on Manchester City’s goaltending situation comes from the German daily Kicker, which claims that Stefan Ortega is the guy in issue as he makes his way to the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City Will Soon Acquire Stefan Ortega

According to some sources, the 29-year-old Arminia Bielefeld goalkeeper is close to joining Manchester City and will take Ederson’s place as the squad’s starting goalkeeper in the first team. The rumor indicates that Ortega would be signed by Etihad officials on a free transfer because his contract expires this summer.

After yet another busy season in the Bundesliga, Stefan Ortega would be moving to Manchester City.

For Arminia Bielefeld, Ortega made 33 appearances in the German Bundesliga, making a total of six clean sheets but also giving up 53 goals.

Unfortunately, Bielefeld’s efforts in front of goal were insufficient to guarantee their survival in the Bundesliga.

Arminia Bielefeld was consequently demoted to the German second division together with Greuther Furth, and to make matters worse, they might not have their main goalkeeper for the upcoming season.

Manchester City is still interested in signing two Premier League players this summer.

Despite the known interest from important figures at the Etihad Stadium, Kalvin Phillips of Leeds United remains their top target in central midfield. However, it is believed that Manchester City has not yet made a formal offer to the Elland Road club.

Marc Cucurella of Brighton & Hove Albion is the major candidate on City’s shortlist for left-back, which is also widely known.

Zack Steffen leaves Manchester City in quest of more playing time, Manchester City has a verbal agreement to sign Stefan Ortega as Ederson’s backup. The 29-year-old German, who has also played for 1860 Munich, has made City his preferred destination as his contract at Arminia Bielefeld expires at the end of this month.

Steffen was primarily limited to City’s domestic cup appearances, and he will have to compete with other goalkeepers for the US to start for them in the World Cup. He had to miss the international games this month due to family obligations.

In other developments, Newcastle has finalized the four-year contract agreement to acquire goalkeeper Nick Pope from Burnley. After agreeing to a cost in the neighborhood of £10 million, the England international has completed his transfer.

Further, Ortega has had two stints at Arminia Bielefeld and has made a total of 220 appearances in all competitions, including 33 Bundesliga starts last season.

After bringing in Erling Braut Haaland from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month, the German might be Pep Guardiola’s second acquisition of the summer.
