Erik Thommy, born on August 20, 1994, is a German professional footballer who currently plays for Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart as a midfielder and winger.
He has recently left VfB Stuttgart and is poised to join Sporting Kansas City in Major League Soccer, according to Kicker.
Two Stunning Incomings, Erik Thommy And William Agada
ESPN soccer analyst and former the United States men’s national team striker Taylor Twellman said on Sunday afternoon’s broadcast of Sporting Kansas City’s 2-1 home loss to the New England Revolution that the club is set to announce two new additions in the coming days.
The team has agreed to terms with German midfielder Erik Thommy and Nigerian attacker William Agada, according to Twellman.
According to the source, the 27-year-old is expected to join the MLS club Sporting Kansas City on a free transfer. Thommy is a free agent when his contract with Stuttgart expires at the end of the month and will not be renewed. He appeared in 54 games for ‘Die Schwaben’, scoring three goals and adding ten assists.
Thommy, on the other hand, spent much of the time at Stuttgart as a winger. In the German Bundesliga, he has nine goals and 14 assists in nearly 100 appearances. It may seem unusual that Sporting would acquire another winger, but sources close to the situation say that Kansas City sees him as a more attacking midfielder.
Only a few issues remain to be worked out before Thommy joins Sporting KC, where he will play alongside fellow countryman Robert Voloder.
Thommy, who has Kazakh heritage and is eligible to play for Russia, had been keen on joining Dynamo Moscow. Rather, the former Fortuna Dusseldorf winger will go to the United States.
Sporting Plays in Major League Soccer (MLS) is based in Missouri, United States, and was created in 1995. Kansas City has been a member of the Major League Soccer (MLS) since 1996.
Since January 2018, Erik Thommy has been a member of the Swabians. He was loaned out to Fortuna Dusseldorf for the 2019/2020 season. Thommy appeared in 52 Bundesliga games for Stuttgart, as well as two DFB Cup matches.
Furthermore, previously, Sporting KC was rumored to be in the market after two designated players, Alan Pulido and Gadi Kinda, were ruled out for the season with knee injuries. Vermes and the club have yet to make any official declaration regarding signings.
Sporting has only 13 points in 16 games, which keeps them in the basement of the Western Conference.
Sporting KC travels to Nashville before returning home midweek to face Union Omaha after two back-to-back home losses.
Regardless of a disappointing regular season, Sporting has advanced to the semifinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, where they will face the USL League One Side.
Last season, Thommy only played 265 minutes in 11 Bundesliga games under Pellegrino Matarazzo, losing his spot to Chris Fuhrich and Omar Marmoush.
Lately, Aurelien Tchouameni is the newest player to join Real Madrid from AS Monaco in the summer transfer window. Darwin Nunez, an Uruguayan striker, has completed his move from Benfica to Liverpool in the Premier League.
Erling Haaland’s move to Manchester City, like his father, was one of the most intriguing transactions of the summer.
