Youssoufa Moukoko is undoubtedly one of the foremost hyped talents in world football.

Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko Is Likely To Extend His Contract

He first started making headlines because of his astonishing goal record in Dortmund’s youth teams. The teenager netted an incredible 141 times in only 88 matches in the Youth Bundesliga tiers. Now a first-team player, he’s a sought-after talent.

Youssoufa Moukoko The Record Breaker

Moukoko has the record for many goals in a U17 Bundesliga season with 50 goals. Additionally, he broke the single-season U19 Bundesliga goal tally with 34. Incredibly impressively though, he accomplished this all at the age of  15 years old – playing four age groups up.

His prolific talent meant Dortmund were eager to get the teenager into first-team football. Due to this, Youssoufa Moukoko broke one more record. The Dortmund teenager is the youngest player to ever play within the Bundesliga. He came on as a substitute against Hertha Berlin at only 16 years and one day old.

A Good Chance That Youssoufa Moukoko Will Extend His Borussia Dortmund Contract

Extension of Contract of Youssoufa Moukoko

Speaking about a possible contract extension for 17-year-old forward Youssoufa Moukoko, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke discussed the German’s current situation as he enters the ultimate year of his contract.

“If a player shows their eagerness to increase a year before the tip of the contract, then you still have the choice of auctioning the player,” Watzke told Ruhr Nachrichten. When discussing an extension for Moukoko, he added: “There’s a good chance of that. But Youssoufa should make the ultimate decision.”

Moukoko battled with wounds during the 2021/22 season and struggled under Marco Rose. Before the appointment of Edin Terzić, there was an inclination that Moukoko would sign a contract extension to spend the 22/23 season on loan.

However, Terzić awarded Moukoko together with his Bundesliga debut which could add favor of Moukoko signing an extension.

In some ways, moving to the primary team gave the impression of the logical next step for Moukoko, who looked as if it would be far before his peers in terms of his footballing ability. And yet, since making the jump to the senior level, Moukoko hasn’t hit the heights that perhaps some might need expecting.

In his debut season, Moukoko only scored 3 goals in 14 matches, a tally that’s very impressive for a player of his age. But unsurprisingly nowhere near his tremendous goalscoring numbers at the youth level.

The reasons for this are varied. For one, the transition to senior football isn’t always seamless, even for the foremost talented players. There’s an adjustment period that’s sometimes necessary.

There’s also having a striker the likes of Erling Haaland to deal with. you’d be hard-pressed to search out a player within the world who could take significant minutes off of the prolific Norwegian when fully fit.

Furthermore, Moukoko has handled significant injuries since the ultimate third of last season, which has also put a damper on his chances for minutes. These factors culminate to form difficult circumstances for any player, as well as one as young as Moukoko.
